This help file deals with what we call the "mixed sources barcode search" or the "cart quick search". This page is a special sub set of the main Adilas quick search which is available from almost every page in the system.

The goal of this page or section is to bring together four (4) of the main application types or system players under one roof. Basically, one search is able to check any of the players listed. All of these players are used by different corporations to help in the sales process (depending on the complexity of their business models). The four different players are: The parts and general inventories (aka parts), flex grid tie-in's (special buddy system), recipe/builds (kits and preset groups), and custom coded buttons called my cart favorites.

The only way to get to this page is by doing a search for a barcode (mixed sources) or by doing a search from the main view shopping cart page. There is also a corp-wide setting that allows any of the four main application types (players) to be included in your search options from the main shopping cart. By default, the only selected search option is for parts and general inventories. As needed, the other options may be added to the cart search options (usually depending on the complexity of your business model).

One of the goals of this page is to cut the number of clicks required to get to the data or sub pieces. If a barcode is searched and a perfect match is found, the system is setup to respond as if you had individually searched, found, and clicked the button or link assigned. If more than one match or search result is found, the system is setup to display all matching options. Basically, a 4-in-1 search of parts, flex grid, recipes, and cart favorites all on one page.

If a perfect match is found, between the search value and the barcode of the results, the system is setup to do the following:

Parts - Say you searched a general part number barcode and find a match. If you have an open cart and a corp-wide setting called "barcode quick cart" turned on, the system will automatically add one to the open cart. If a perfect match is found and either no current cart is open or the "barcode quick cart" setting is turned off, the system is setup to automatically re-route you to the part number detail page. That page has tons of built-in functionality for a single part number. The part number detail page is capable of doing basic add to cart, advanced add to cart, it will show quantities per location, it may also show assigned flex grid tie-in's (buddy assignments), photos, my cart favorite buttons that are assigned, and any "smart group" assignments (tiered pricing tied to special cart favorite buttons). Lots of options!

Flex Grid Tie-In's - Say you search a flex grid tie-in barcode (buddy assignment) and find a perfect match. The system is setup to automatically route you over to the flex grid tie-in details (assignments and information). This may not seem that exciting, but each piece of flex grid is very flexible, so our best time-saving trick is to show you what the assignments and details are for the tie-in requested.

Recipe/Builds - Say you searched a recipe/build barcode and found a perfect match. The system is setup to automatically re-route you to a thing called the "build prep" page. A recipe is a pre-set group, kit, or list of options. The build prep page allows you to make last minute changes or use a yield multiplier (increase/decrease quantities in bulk) to get the desired outcome. Recipes, through the build process, allow you to add multiple items to a shopping cart at a single time.

My Cart Favorite Buttons - Say you searched a barcode assigned to a cart favorite button and found a perfect match. The system is setup to help do whatever the button was programmed to do. This could be do a search and show the results, add one to the cart, show the part number detail page, send information to the cart or advanced add to cart page (custom settings), or open up smart groups (tiered pricing) or other buttons groups (navigation and sub navigation). In a nutshell, cart favorite buttons are like flexible mini recipes for specific part numbers. This allows you to pre-code whatever, price, quantities, descriptions, tax categories, special settings, etc. and then use a barcode reader to activate those settings. This is very powerful and flexible.

The my cart favorites search also does a secondary search if a shopping cart already exists and a customer is assigned to the cart. My cart favorite buttons have the ability to be filtered by a thing we call the "customer type" (a sub classification like member, non-member, vip, prospect, normal, etc.). What this allows for, is say you have the same barcode value assigned to more than one my cart favorite button, say for example different prices per customer type. If the cart exists, and a customer type can be determined, the secondary search kicks in and will filter the results by the customer type and the barcode value (two-way filter or secondary search). This means that part number xyz (just an example) could have the same barcode for both vip members and for the standard public (assuming different price structures) and the system would be able to figure out which one to use. This makes it very simple for the business and their employees (they only have one barcode value to scan) and it makes it very flexible as a system or POS (point of sale) application (the system can figure out what price setting to use).

Also, by way of a note, if you turn on the corp-wide setting that allows for my cart favorite buttons to be searched from the cart quick search. We open up the search options from just barcodes assigned to buttons to search the buttons names, custom descriptions, and the barcodes. This makes it easy to get to your buttons quicker. Basically, it is like searching for normal parts, but you are searching all public cart favorite buttons (even for buttons assigned to other users).

Barcode readers and scanners are not required to use Adilas.biz. In fact, you are able to use barcode fields and do manual searches of those fields just as if you were using a barcode reader. In short, a barcode scanner or reader is called a "human interface device". It is the same as a keyboard or mouse (also human interface devices). The cool thing about a barcode reader is, it is very fast, and reads and enters data the same every time. Using a barcode scanner is like finding a certain value to enter, keying it in, and then pressing the enter key. That is all that a barcode reader does. Using a barcode reader is like being a super fast typist that never messes up.

If you choose to use a barcode scanner or reader, all that you need to do is: Have the barcode scanner connected to the computer, have a physical barcode to scan (either on the item or on a label), have this "barcode" search type selected, and have the cursor actively blinking (focused) in the search field. At that point, you just scan the barcode and the application will run a searches on that item. It, the system, will try to match the value entered by the reader against data stored in the different barcode fields. Remember, this barcode search is the same as if you, as user, had typed a value and then clicked the "go" or search button. It is just done really fast if the reader is used.

Once data is returned or the search is finished, you may either add an item to the cart, view info and pricing, check quantities, edit details, look-up histories, browse usage reports, etc. More information about what is possible is listed above.
